Wall Heating
Radiators are still the mostly widely installed heating system in the UK. Most people would agree they are not ideal but over the years we have accepted them as ‘the norm’. In recent years, underfloor heating has rapidly increased in popularity particularly for new build and renovations due to its efficiency and ‘invisibility’, in situations where underfloor heating cannot be used where do you turn – Wall Heating?
Wall heating is an aesthetically pleasing, low temperature heating system suitable for any situation.
Tested to EN442-2 1997, the wall heating system can deliver 85 w/M2 with a flow temperature at 35 deg/c. Perfect for use with low temperature ground or air source heatpumps.
Greenerheat recently utilised a ground source heatpump and wall heating installation for our annual MCS accreditation surveillance visit. We were able to demonstrate the system’s compliance and its ability to achieve a 6 star heating system in accordance with the Heat Emitter Guide.
Why wall heating?
The demand for Renewable Energy technologies in to domestic properties is on the increase. It is fast becoming the accepted method of heating our homes and seen as a preferential alternative to fossil fuel boilers. Planning and building regulations along with the desire to cut energy costs and the RHI are driving the way forward to increased use of “Greener heating systems”.
The installation of renewable heating technologies, in particular Air and Ground Source heat pumps, can present problems with the design of the heating system. It is widely understood that heat pumps work more efficiently at low temperatures. It is also known the government’s RHI scheme will financially reward low temperature, efficient systems whilst penalising those installations running at higher temperatures. To simply connect a heatpump to radiators is rarely the best and only solution.
What is wall heating?
Wall heating, is a low temperature, large surface area “wet” heat distribution system that can be fitted on any wall or ceiling. The wall heating plates, specially formed from steel sheets are fitted directly to the wall, grooves in the plates hold pipes in place and a standard plasterboard covers the system.
The pipes are then connected to an underfloor heating distribution manifold centrally located and a hard wired or wireless room thermostat system provides optimum temperature control. As a retrofit, this type of installation also provides the opportunity to upgrade the level of insulation in the home.
