Biomass Heating
Grants With energy security and green house gas emissions a high priority, and challenging renewable energy targets by 2020 set by the British Government, there is currently grant funding for pellet and log heating systems through the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP). Having already had a successful uptake with Solar PV panels with the Feed-in-Tariff, a long awaited Renewable Heat Incentive is hoped to have a similar effect on biomass heating.
The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a biomass boiler and stove grant scheme which will be administered by the energy regulator Ofgem. Although the final details of the domestic RHI have yet to be confirmed, it is designed to provide long term support for a range of renewable heating products including Biomass Boilers, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Air Source Heat Pumps as well as Solar Thermal Systems. The system is believed to make payment on the amount of renewable heating generated.
The Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) - Phase 2
The Renewable Heat Premium Payment was launched in August 2011 and is a precursor to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). After the initial success of Phase 1 of the RHPP, expiring in March 2012, Phase 2 has now been confirmed. It is a grant scheme for domestic customers providing a one off payment for MCS certified and biomass heating systems.
